Carry-on

Checked baggage
Average rates for checked baggage bought with an airplane ticket are between 1 USD – 4 USD per kg.
Price for an excess bag can be usually calculated with weight system (per kg), or piece system (per piece). Costs per kg vary between 1 USD per kg and all the way to 10 USD per kg.
Costs per piece vary between 40 USD per piece and 150 USD per piece.
Most airlines will add excess weight charges in the event that your baggage exceeds maximum allowed weight. Charges can be anywhere form 5 USD to 80USD per ecxeeded kg. The fee can be applied even in the event that the checked baggage weight limit is exceeded for only 1kg. Cheaper providers are usually stricter even in the event of minor deviation.

Pet policy
Pet policy depends exclusively on an Airline. Most of airlines that do accept animals will accept dogs, cats, birds and sometimes other household pets.
Airlines such as Jetstar have a strict no-pet policy with an only exception for medically certified service dogs.
Airline such as Qantas, Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia and others will accommodate your pet. Some airlines transfer your pets as checked baggage, some can take it as a carry-on baggage and some as both. Be sure to check weight limitations of selected airlines if you wish to transfer your pet as a carry-on.
Fees
Most airlines will not include the weight of your pet in your baggage allowance, therefore excess baggage charges will be applied for the combined weight of your pet and the cage.
Be advised that there is also a maximum number of cages that can be checked in by one customer (usually two), and a maximum number of pet containers that can be accepted on a certain airplane, depending on the available space.
